nreal demonstrates volumetric MR content with LG U+, powered by 5G smartphones unveiled at MWC.

BARCELONA, February 25, 2019 / PRNewswire / -- nreal, developer of ready-to-wear, consumer mixed reality glasses (MR), announces the demonstration of volumetric and panoramic mixed reality content from LG U+, exhibited at Mobile World Congress 2019 on 5G-compatible smartphones with the Qualcomm® SnapdragonTM 855 platform and Snapdragon XR Optimized.

Envisioning a world where mixed reality glasses like nreal light become commonplace by 2020, whether in use during commutes, at home, in coffee shops or within other public spaces, nreal’s partnership with Qualcomm will now make available nreal light cross-platform compatible with smartphones embedded with the Qualcomm® SnapdragonTM 855 5G Mobile Platform and Snapdragon XR Optimized.

By collaborating with Qualcomm and getting Snapdragon XR Optimized validation, nreal is the primary mixed reality partner within Qualcomm’s ecosystem collaboration for 5G smartphones, which include world-leading OEMs, global operators, and platform providers and application developers.

At MWC, anyone can witness the full potential of 5G connectivity through nreal’s collaboration with Qualcomm and LG U+. Visitors to both Qualcomm and LG U+ booths can experience for the first time panoramic video and volumetric content, which is directly projected through an nreal light tethered via USB Type-C to a 5G-enabled smartphone.

Exemplifying next-generation MR content in collaboration with LG U+, nreal opens up a new wave of possibilities for 5G wearables that now makes it easier than ever to access a full mixed reality experience that’s soon available for mass production and consumption.

Now you can stream mixed reality content on-the-go, while no longer fretting about high latency, low data throughput, despite playing a mixed reality game during your train ride home, or while dialed into a holographic video call with your colleague during a bus ride to the office.

nreal light, first unveiled at CES 2019, was celebrated for its groundbreaking lightweight, sunglass-like design at 85g and recently introduced foldable temples, never before seen in MR glasses. Complimentary to its form factor, nreal light is bolstered by a large 52º FoV and brilliant 1080p resolution for crisp digital images.

“Qualcomm is spearheading the next breakthrough in mobile connectivity with 5G and immersive computing with XR, while LG U+ is forward-thinking by offering value-added compatible next-gen content that extends the capability of smartphones,” said Chi Xu, Founder and CEO of nreal. “With Qualcomm and LG U+’ support, nreal will make it easier than ever to make mixed reality accessible by offering a hardware platform that lowers the barriers to entry through a comfortable form factor, high quality display and an affordable price.”

In collaboration from Qualcomm ecosystem platform providers, SenseTime and NetEase AR will develop and bring the first set of mixed reality content as well as more AR capabilities for nreal light.
